UFG-Spotlight E3: Lego Batman

The Lego Batman game is surprisingly awesome! o be quite honest, I never thought that a Lego game based on popular characters would ever be anything but cheesy. And this is Batman, the Dark Knight, so they couldnt possibly do anything but mess up the probably coolest character in the DC Universe. But...

UFG-Spotlight E3: Mortal Kombat VS DC Universe

I was really worried about MK VS DC. With the last Mortal Kombats being lackluster, I wasnt sure what to expect. At the same time, I was excited by the possibility that this game could be awesome.

UFG -Spotlight E3: Brave: A Warriors Tale

Brave: A Warriors Tale, developed by Collision Studios, is one of the many sleeper titles at E3. It doesnt have super realistic graphics, adult humor, a first-person perspective, or require a Wiimote. What it does have is good down to earth platforming.

UFG-Spotlight E3: Capcom Press Event

Unexpectedly, Capcoms press conference at E3 focused on only one point. In conjunction with Arad Productions, Capcom is in the process of producing a Lost Planet movie. While in most circumstances, movies and video games do not mix well, this has a boatload of potential.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: Velvet Assassin

Coming to the PC and 360 near the end of this year is Velvet Assassin. Set during WWII, you play as Violette Summer, a British agent behind enemy lines. Whats fascinating about her is that shes in a coma through the game and you are essentially playing through her memory of events, which makes for some interesting game mechanics.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: Fallout 3: Second Opinion

Fallout 3 is a beautiful game. It reminds me a lot of Bioshock in the look and feel with the cartoon character that is prevalent throughout the game like the ADAM upgrade cartoon images in Bioshock. While Kenny was playing, the perhaps only non-hostile player in this part of the game comes around a corner (which almost got her shot). But, she wasnt attacking so there was no need.

UFG-Spotlight- E3:Fallout 3

Its been a long time since Ive seen the sun. It took nearly five minutes for my eyes to adjust to its light. Living in a vault years has that effect on people. It takes me only five feet out onto the desolate street in front of the vault before I realize how lucky I was. Nothing but death and destruction lay before me. Walking further down the street, I pass the ruins of a nearby neighborhood, if you can still call it that. Most of the houses that use to be on this street are nothing but rubble now.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: SouthPeaks Raven Squad,

SouthPeak has a strong showing at E3 this year. They had eight titles, all showing tremendous promise (which is more than I can say for some of the larger developers at E3). Raven Squad, an RTS/FPS, is one of said titles. In this game, you control two groups of soldiers sent behind enemy lines. Using unique system (similar to the one found in Command and Conquer: Renegade),

UFG-Spotlight- Sony Press Event

Its been a long time since Ive been excited about a Sony press event. Being able to finally hear something from Sony that would make me forget about the other giants is no small feat to accomplish. The fact that Microsoft announced Final Fantasy 13 for the Xbox 360 makes things even harder for Sony. Well, I am happy to say that even though Sony didnt wow me, the company did hold a pretty good press conference.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: Fable 2

First off, Im extremely excited about this game. Fable 2 is, in my opinion, one of the main reasons to have a 360. I somehow missed the hype boat for the first Fable and bought it on a whim when the extended Lost Chapters came to PC. I have been waiting for the second iteration ever since.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: Sega Line up

Hosted in a small cluster of rooms, Segas line of games was a surprise parade of stunning, must-have titles.
Brandon Trost
Continuing in the Total War series is Empire: Total War. Set in the 18th century, and focusing heavily on conflict between the British empire and the American colonies, Empire is the most impressive entry in the series. The level of detail present is just short of impossible.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: Stormrise

The best thing about E3 is finding out about new titles. I dont mean the ones we were expecting (like Gears of War 2 or Infamous). I am talking about something out of the blue that is so intriguing; you cant stop talking about it. Segas Stormrise is one of those titles. Developed by Creative Assembly, Stormrise is a fresh take on the RTS genre.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: MadWorld

This game was one of the biggest surprises (for me) at E3 so far. Segas MadWorld is one of the most violent video games I have ever seen. Thats not whats shocking though. Whats shocking is that it is made exclusively for the Nintendo Wii! Developed by Platinum Games, this title is sure to raise some eyebrows when it hits store shelves.

UFG-Spotlight- E3: Nintendo Press Event

We promise to keep the world smiling. This is Nintendos opening statement and ongoing theme. VP Cammie Dunaway started the show off with a heartwarming story about how she broke her wrist while snowboarding. Shaun White then emerged from a giant test tube to demonstrate Shaun White Snowboarding with the Wii Balance Board while guiding his Mii character down a half pipe and flag course by shifting his weight. Other than the inclusion of two-player, the only other information given was that it would be available around Christmas.

UFG-Spotlight- SouthPeaks E3 line up!

SouthPeak is bringing out the big guns. The company that brought you Two Worlds and Monster Madness has a strong line up of titles appearing at E3.

This years products are among the best the company has ever produced, said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games. We are coming to the show with strong momentum and we believe that will translate into a strong Holiday Season.

UFG-Spotlight- Video Games Live

I am here to announce (well re-announce) the first video game music compilation album to be released on a major label. EMI Classics and Video Games Live will release a CD titled Video Game Live: Volume One, with some of the best known video game music of all time! The EMI Classics CD will be compiled by Video Games Live co-creators Tommy Tallarico and Jack Wall, and will feature the Slovak National Orchestra, The Crouch End Festival Chorus and the Video Game Pianist, Martin Leung. Awesome!

UFG-Spotlight- E3 and Indie

The creative lifeblood of the gaming industry pops its head above ground. The rarely seen and hardly heard indie game designers get to show their all during IndieCade's show during E3. With more than a dozen games showing off gaming's fringe potential, it will leave us wondering...what wonders could consumers get if money came into the equation?

I know its been a long time since I last wrote you. Fort Brag was hit hard a few months back and we have been trying to recoup ever since. Dont worry. I know they are afraid of the dark and I hear those underground bunkers arent well lit.

UFG-Spotlight- NBA Ballers: Chosen One

Back in the 90s Midways NBA Jam franchise ruled the roost as the premier arcade basketball game. A half dozen or so versions later the franchise, fell off the map making way for other companies to try their hand at the genre. Not to be out done in the area they perfected Midway introduced a new series, NBA Ballers, in hopes of recreating some of that magic NBA Jam had so long ago.
